Better Balance Foundations Program

Thursdays 10:30 - 11:30 am PST

Whether we’re ready or not, age-related changes of our bodies affect balance, mobility, and strength. This program is designed to give you realistic tips for preventing injury & falls, engage you in accessible, yoga-inspired movement, and help you create a foundation of awareness & understanding of your body.

Through this 6-week journey, each lesson & movement practice builds on top of the other, solidifying your new knowledge in mind and body. Each session offers all-levels, beginner-friendly movement, education, interactive discussion, and resources.

  • Education in preventing injury & falls as we age

  • Mindfulness & cognitive-based exercises to improve efficiency of movement

  • Body mechanics for safe strengthening & stretching

  • Balance development techniques & practice

  • Recommendations & resources to maintain your skills for years to come

What we'll cover

  • Access to internet & a device with a camera

  • Sturdy chair (without armrests are ideal)

  • Yoga mat or comfortable flooring to move around on

  • Optional, but useful: yoga blocks (2), towel or blanket

  • This program’s content pulls from evidence-based approaches to improve your mobility & strength. It’s designed to be accessible and beneficial for most folks despite age-related limitations. However, due to it’s group nature, specific support may be limited. If you’re looking for coaching that personalizes movement to your complex needs, email meleweaver@gmail.com‍ for 1:1 options.

  • Short answer - yes. Mele is a yoga teacher after all! The postures have functional applicability, transitions between poses improve balance, and the mindfulness practices helps lock in the new knowledge in your body. Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it!

    Yoga has vast roots & traditions. Mele is trained in Hatha style, meaning, flowing movements are connected to the breath. Combined with rehabilitative and strength-training approaches, you’ll get a well-rounded experience!
